The extinction of sea-dwelling dinosaurs, such as the ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs, was likely due to a combination of factors. One major factor was the mass extinction event that occurred around 66 million years ago, possibly caused by a comet or asteroid impact. This event led to drastic changes in the Earth's climate and environment, which would have had a significant impact on marine ecosystems. Additionally, competition for resources and predation from other marine animals may have also contributed to their extinction. Overall, the combination of environmental changes and increased competition likely led to the demise of sea-dwelling dinosaurs. **
